Sample Program

The blazing drum roll of a djembe declares the excitement ready to fill the room. Dancers wearing brightly colored garb (based on traditional African clothing) move through the room to the slowly mounting rhythm being generated by the powerful percussion ensemble. As the dancers reach the "stage, " the rhythm kicks into high gear, and the next seven minutes brim with graceful steps and infectious rhythms working in pure synergy. This is the beginning of a The Rhythm Of Life!™ experience.

Next, the ensemble introduces the evening, and invites the audience to join in song, and non-threatening movements to get them warmed up and ready for an experience of village music making. Simple African songs (from around the continent) are taught in call and response style; the cooperation and musical conversation between drummer and dancer is demonstrated through the performance of traditional rhythms and dances. Audience participation is woven into the performance segment.

After inspiring the audience with rhythm, song, and dance, it's time for the people to play! All willing participants from the audience are invited to join the drumming circle that has been created, and are given their choice of drum or percussion instrument. Basic instructions are given for playing each instrument, and slowly orchestration takes place until the entire group is enjoying the pleasure of the "village music jam."

Then, it is time to dance. Again, willing participants are invited to participate in learning simple, yet dynamic steps from traditional African dances. This is done, of course, to live drumming. The drum and dance instruction is presented with respect to all participants. It is never intimidating; there is always encouragement, and appreciation for all abilities. Throughout the entire presentation, participants learn about customs and traditions of the many African and world rhythm cultures, and they experience new insights into the benefits of responsibility, cooperation, and respect for themselves and others.

The evening concludes with a final song, and expression of gratitude to all participants. People leave the experience with smiles, laughter and fulfillment, and whether they know it or not, they have learned a few things about themselves and the rich musical traditions of the world.

PLEASE NOTE: This example is one of many presentation configurations; we are happy to design a program that meets your specific needs.
